The Baraka Youth Association (BYA) is a supplementary school and community organisation founded for the benefit of children and young people living in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in particular those of Somali and other ethnic minority backgrounds. A rough translation of Baraka is ‘good luck’ or ‘blessing’.
BYA’s principal aims include developing the physical, mental and educational capacities of young people so that they can grow to full maturity as individuals and integrated members of wider society, enriching their lives and increasing their educational and employment opportunities.
BYA’s activities include the provision of advice and information services, educational support and recreational and leisure opportunities. All BYA’s activities are based on social welfare and aim to develop the physical, mental and educational capacities of young people
